Ride of Silence

May 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

On the third Wednesday of May, at 7 PM local around the world, cyclists take to the roads in silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while riding on public roadways. The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph for no longer than an hour, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road, and remain silent during the ride. The ride hopes to raise cycling awareness among motorists, police, traffic engineers, insurance companies, and city officials as we show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured. Great Plains Bicycling Club participates in the Ride of Silence each year. We ride especially to remember Nebraska cyclists and cyclists with Nebraska connections who have been killed or injured while cycling.

The 2024 Ride of Silence begins at 7 PM, Wednesday May 15th.
Route: Meet at the Jane Snyder Trails Center, 21st and Q Streets in Lincoln. From the Trails Center head west on Q Street, then north on Antelope Valley Parkway, then southwest (left) on Salt Creek Rd. Continue onto Pinnacle Arena Drive to N Street. Follow the N Street Bikeway to 13th Street, then south to K Street to the north Capitol steps for a pause to remember cyclists who have been killed or injured while riding. From the Capitol continue east on K Street to Antelope Valley Parkway, north to P Street and return east to the Trails Center. Except for the N Street Bikeway, the entire ride will take place on streets.

The group will ride in one lane so we can fit as many as possible safely in a close group. Helmets are required.
