Multi-Day Rides

Most multi-day rides are annual events, each with their own website.  Many of these rides fill up well in advance; some have lotteries to select the participants from those that submit registration forms.  As such, they require advance planning.

In Nebraska, there are several annual multi-day rides held in May or June.

Bike MS Scenic Ride is a 2-day ride from Omaha to Lincoln and back. In 2009 it will be Saturday and Sunday May 30 - 31. Fee: $50. Participants must raise a minimum pledge of $200 by May 30. For more information vist it the Bike MS Scenic Ride web site.

Bike and Brew/Winery Tour is a two day tour May 30 -31 from Nebraska City to Pawnee City and back. This tour was organized to be just right for your first challenge of the summer and continued preparation for Tour de Nebraska, BRAN, or RAGBRAI. The tour offers great lunch, dinner, and breakfast arrangements, the attractions of the start and overnight towns, and of course, the beauty of the SE Nebraska countryside. Adults 21 years of age and older only.

Foxhole Tavern 100 is a two-day ride from Lincoln to Wilber and back on the weekend of 6 & 7 June, 2009, sponsored by the Foxhole Tavern in Wilber. Riders will leave at 10:00 am on Saturday, travel down the Jamaica North trail into Cortland, stop for lunch and a tour of the Spilker Ales brewery and arrive in Wilber early evening. Cyclists will overnight in Wilber, wake up to fresh kolaches and head back to Lincoln on Sunday. The organizers will be operating a SAG vehicle as well. The entry fee is $35 and covers park fees for campers (local hotel will also provide discounted rates), dinner and breakfast, a Fox Hole 100 t-shirt and all the Hopluia beer in the bar. For more informaion visit the Foxhole Tavern website, e-mail foxholetavern@gmail.com, or call (402) 610 - 6227

BRAN (Bike Ride Across Nebraska) is a 7-day west-to-east tour and is the largest of the three with about 650 riders.  2009's edition is from June 7th - 13th and begins in Trenton, NE and makes its way through Cambridge, Alma. Superior, Wymore, Humboldt, Syracuse, and ends in the Chalco Hills near Omaha. For more information, visit bran-inc.org.

Tour De Nebraska is a 5-day loop tour with about 200 riders run by Rich and Susan Rodenburg. In 2009 it will be June 17 - 21 in northeast Nebraska, beginning and ending in Platte Center with host towns Tilden, Bloomfield, Ponca, and West Point. The advantage to a loop tour is that you don't need to find transportation back to the tour's starting point. For more information, visit the Tour de Nebraska site.

NUMB tour (Nebraska United Methodist Bike Ride for Hunger) is a 4-day loop tour. The 2009 NUMB Ride will start on Sunday June 28th and end July 1. Cyclists will ride from historic Cow Town Ogallala to Brady, Stapleton, North Platte, and return to Ogallala, a total of 250 miles. Breakfast and lunch each day will be provided by local churches.

There are more rides held in other states, including plenty in nearby states, than space will permit showing, but no listing would be complete without mention of RAGBRAI.  The 2009 ride runs from July 19 - 25.  As in every year, it goes from the western border to the eastern border of Iowa and is ostensibly limited to 8500 registered riders selected via a lottery.  It's really a good bit larger than that as many others tag along. It's hard for those that have never seen it to imagine that many cyclists taking over highways and small towns.  Much information about RAGBRAI exists on the Internet. If you're interested, the application deadline is typically around April Fool's Day (appropriate) with the lottery being held on May 1st.

There are other websites that list bicycle rides of this nature for those that want to travel to other states.  With no promises of completeness, three good sites include:

National Bicycle Tour Directors Association

Trails from Rails

Boulder Community Network (Colorado & Wyoming rides)
